“Applying technology and light to grow dragon fruit improves efficiency, increases productivity and quality"

ADK Export Import Co. grow and export a variety of exotic fruit and limes, as well as spices and nuts. The biggest export product is dragon fruit which is grown in Vietnam's southern Binh Thuan province.

"As well as having our own dragon fruit orchards we contract other good quality growers to supply fruit for export, this is packed in our packing shed before being exported to our main markets which are Asia and the Middle East," explains Anna Nguyen, Sales Executive at ADK. "We export an average of about 480 40'RF containers per year."

There are many growers of dragon fruit in Vietnam and Anna said that typically, exporters and growers will work together to export goods. Each side has its own roles and tasks, so there will be no competition but rather cooperative support.

Dragon fruit is a hot and warm-temperature plant, suitable for humid climates such as the southern provinces of Vietnam. The soil for growing dragon fruit needs to be good, well-drained and rich in nutrients. The dragon fruit tree also needs special care, particularly abundant water and shade to ensure the tree grows and has high productivity.

"With the development of science and technology, many techniques and good intensive farming methods have been applied to dragon fruit cultivation; self-irrigation systems, remote monitoring and control, and the use of artificial lights."

"Applying technology and light to grow dragon fruit not only improves production efficiency but also helps increase productivity and product quality, while minimizing risks caused by unstable weather conditions."

ADK also grow limes for export, the main growing regions are in the western provinces of Vietnam such as Long An, Dong Thap, Tra Vinh. "We export an average of about 10 40'RF containers per month, and we also export limes mixed with other fruits in one 40RF container. Our main export market for limes is the Middle East."
