Peru could send grapes to China by air this year

Peru will be able to export table grapes by air to the Chinese market thanks to an agreement reached during the visit of the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, to China. "Peru is one of the world's main exporters of table grapes, blueberries, avocados, and mangoes. The government's objective, through MIDAGRI, is to continue promoting the access of our products to the Chinese market. We are working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that various agricultural products can enter the Chinese market in the medium term," stated Angel Manero, Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation.

Peru already ships table grapes to China by sea and air shipments will allow it to offer high-quality table grapes to a market segment that prioritizes the product's freshness. In addition, exports of frozen products will seek to diversify demand in hotels, restaurants, the food industry, and catering services, according to Manero.

The visit also promoted the entry of pomegranate and pecans into the Chinese market. According to SENASA, the report on the cold treatment applicable to pomegranates has already been reviewed and approved by the GACC, pending the preparation of the corresponding phytosanitary protocol. Regarding pecans, the GACC has unofficially announced that it will send a technical delegation to Peru in the second week of July. This visit aims to audit the pecans' production, harvest, and post-harvest processing, culminating in the risk analysis stage and preparing the stage for the signing of the phytosanitary protocol necessary for their export.
