In the first quarter of 2024, Brazilian agribusiness employment surged to 28.6 million, marking a new high since the data collection began in 2012 by Cepea at Esalq/USP and the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA). The sector accounted for 26.85% of Brazil's total employment during this period, a slight increase from 26.67% in the previous year.
Employment in the sector grew by 3%, or roughly 827,000 individuals, from January to March 2024, surpassing the overall national employment growth rate of 2.3%. Cepea/CNA researchers attribute this growth primarily to a 9.9% rise in the number of agribusiness workers, particularly those engaged in various support activities ranging from transportation and storage to legal and administrative services. The workforce in these areas expanded by 3.4%, adding 149,179 jobs.
