35% production decrease this year

Climate change is impacting Pakistan's mango production

Waheed Ahmed, Chairman of the Fruit and Vegetable Association, discussed the severe effects of climate change on Pakistan's mango yield. According to a report by 24NewsHD TV channel, there has been a 35% decrease in mango production this year, which Ahmed attributes to adverse climate conditions. He noted that since 2013, increasing global temperatures have posed threats to agriculture and food security in Pakistan.

Ahmed highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change to prevent future food security challenges. He referenced the heat-induced fatalities in Karachi and the necessity to import onions and tomatoes last year as indicators of the broader risks to agriculture and human life. Ahmed called for the implementation of climate resilience strategies in agriculture to protect crops and livelihoods.
