In the initial three months of the current Iranian calendar year, Iran's agricultural exports surged to approximately $1.027 billion, marking a 37 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Mohammad Sadeq Ghanadzadeh, Deputy Head of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization, highlighted a 19 percent growth in the weight of these exports, as reported by IRIB. Key exports included pistachios, tomatoes, watermelons, apples, and potatoes.
The enhancement in trade relations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has been identified as a significant factor contributing to the uptick in exports. Data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) revealed that in the first two months of the Iranian year, Iran exported 1,562,000 tons of agricultural products valued at $684 million, up 28 percent in value year-on-year. This period saw a 24 percent rise in export volume.
Notably, apples, in-shell pistachios, watermelons, field tomatoes, and greenhouse tomatoes emerged as the top agricultural exports by value. These exports represented approximately 6.66 percent of the total weight and 8.53 percent of the total value of Iran's exports during this timeframe. The previous Iranian calendar year witnessed a 22.5 percent increase in the export value of agricultural and foodstuff products, totalling around $6.3 billion, as per Ruhollah Latifi of Iran's House of Industry, Mining and Trade.
Agro-food products constituted 12.8 percent of Iran's total non-oil exports last year, with Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia being the top importers of these products from Iran. The overall value of Iran's foreign trade, including oil and technical engineering services, reached $153.17.8 billion in the last Iranian calendar year.
