Gilfresh Produce, headquartered in County Armagh, is poised to deliver a comprehensive selection of local vegetable products to Asda's 16 outlets across Northern Ireland, encompassing over 1,000 tonnes of root vegetables and 500,000 units of brassica and salad varieties. As a leading horticultural entity in Ireland, Gilfresh has been a supplier to Asda since 2008, enhancing its offerings over the years to now include 21 different types of vegetables such as cabbage, carrots, and swede during the local growing season.
The company, founded by the Gilpin Family in 1965, has evolved significantly from its initial 4-acre cultivation under Thomas Gilpin. Currently, under the leadership of William Gilpin, who became part of the business in 1999 and serves as the Managing Director, Gilfresh operates with a dedicated workforce of 140 at its Loughgall base.
William Gilpin commented on the challenges faced during the 2024 growing season, attributing delays in planting to adverse weather conditions but remained optimistic about the harvest. He highlighted the enduring partnership with Asda, emphasizing the retailer's support for locally sourced produce. Cathy Elliott, representing Asda, acknowledged the long-term collaboration with Gilfresh, noting the supplier's growth and diversified vegetable range in line with Asda's expansion in Northern Ireland.
