Egyptian deadline extended: Opportunity for Dutch seed potato exporters

Good news for Dutch seed potato exporters! The Egyptian Central Authority of Plant Quarantine has announced a deadline extension for allowing seed potato shipments to enter, moving the original deadline from December 1st, 2024, to December 23rd, 2024.

This extension provides crucial breathing room for exporters, offering a valuable opportunity to capitalize on a market that remains key to Dutch seed potato exports.

Last season, Dutch seed potato exporters faced significant challenges. A late production season narrowed the export window, leading to reduced market access and ultimately, a decline in exports to Egypt. The total volume of seed potatoes shipped to Egypt dropped significantly as a result.

This extension offers a chance to reverse this trend. The extended deadline opens doors for increased exports, potentially enabling Dutch exporters to recoup some of the losses experienced last season. It also provides the opportunity to capitalize on the growing demand for high-quality Dutch seed potatoes within the Egyptian market.

The agricultural team of the Dutch embassy will follow up on developments and stand ready to provide updates when needed.
