Blood Oranges from Australia available in the U.S. market

The citrus summer (counter) season is in full swing. Southern Hemisphere citrus is on the move. Australia exports mandarins, Navel and blood oranges too. Australian blood oranges are widely available in the USA and Canada throughout the months of September, October and November. The main variety is Moro and new from Australia is the Ippolito variety.

The Moro, also known as the Arnold, has been a long-time favourite with consumers in North America. Its eye-catching deep red flesh has makes them ideal for desserts, salads and cocktails. The high level of antioxidants unique to the Blood Orange has made them incredibly popular to be consumed fresh or blended in a juice. The Moro variety is already available in over 3000 stores in US and growing

A new variety for Australia is the Ippolito blood orange, originally from Sicily in Italy. The Ippolito also have a nice red flesh & aligns with consumer trend for healthy products. How it differs is with its attractive smooth skin & vibrant color. It is also known to be widely sweeter than the Moro making it an even more suitable option to juice or eat fresh to get your antioxidants and Vitamin C intake.
