First pillar into the ground for new Axia research centre

At Axia Vegetable Seeds, the construction of a new research centre for phytopathology and marker technology and a new greenhouse complex for breeding has really started. This Monday, the first pillar went into the ground, courtesy of Kamila Koropacka and Rick Meijer.

Certhon will build the complex. The complex will consist of two blocks. Block 1 at Monnikenlaan 2 will serve as a research centre, while block 2 will be set up specifically for other programmes.

Sandor van Vliet, managing director of Axia Vegetable Seeds: "The realisation of this new research centre fits in seamlessly with our core value: innovation. The centre will play a crucial role in the development and breeding of our distinctive tomato range."

The high-tech research centre is designed to push the boundaries of tomato breeding and offer a wide range of innovative solutions. "The research team looks forward to working in this new environment on pioneering technologies and genetic improvements, which will continue to position Axia Vegetable Seeds as a pioneer in tomato breeding."

The Westland breeding company is fully engaged in developing even more ToBRFV-resistant varieties. The new research centre will accelerate this.
