The Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge stands as the foremost entry point for Mexican produce into the U.S., handling over 65% of the country's imported fruits and vegetables, including a wide variety such as avocados, strawberries, and tomatoes. This bridge, ranking 32nd among U.S. ports in June, saw trade amounting to $3.6 billion, with avocados leading the imports at $175 million out of the total $500 million in produce for the month.
Pharr, Texas, has initiated an expansion project for a second bridge span to enhance the existing infrastructure. This endeavour, a collaboration between the U.S. and Mexico, aims to double the bridge's capacity and improve trade efficiency by adding more lanes and inspection booths, along with technological upgrades to streamline operations. The $44 million project, supported by various U.S. agencies, also includes the development of additional facilities to support the agricultural sector.
