Ready-to-Eat pre-ripened products with a longer shelf life, better taste and smaller environmental impact. That is the promise of the new product line introduced by Staay Food Group under its own label, Eat & Care. The first products in this new line are mangoes and avocados. For the supply of these, Staay is working with Belgian company Special Fruit. Thanks to years of experience in ripening fruit into Ready-to-Eat (RTE) products, the specialist from Hoogstraten offers an excellent addition to Staay Food Group's existing expertise in exotic fruit.
More freshness, longer shelf life
The fruit is ripened in airtight cells using the new 'soft-ripening method'. Here, AI software technology controls the ripening process individually. This allows each batch of fruit to ripen more homogeneously in a more natural way. This ensures a better fresh experience than with conventionally ripened fruit. Shelf life is also increased, further reducing possible wastage and therefore food waste. As the ripening process is faster and more controlled, it also saves energy.
"Extra attention is already being paid to quality and sustainability when growing the Eat & Care products. Our growers in the various countries of origin are carefully selected for this. Eat & Care products are therefore not only tasty but also sustainably produced," says Staay.
