Rectification of article on foodborne illness outbreaks

Yesterday, FreshPlaza published an article originating from FoodSafetyNews.com, containing an update on foodborne illness outbreaks. FreshPlaza amended the title of the original article and after modification the outbreaks of Listeria and Salmonella in produce got mixed up.

We would hereby like to stress that mangos have not been part of a Listeria outbreak in the U.S. Although mangos were linked to Salmonella back in July, the investigation from the FDA has been closed. It is still uncertain whether mangos were the original source of the July salmonella outbreak or not.

FDA's website says the outbreak of Salmonella Irumu (ref #1235) has ended, and the investigation has closed. CDC, FDA, and state and local partners conducted epidemiologic and traceback investigations and identified mangoes as the source of illnesses in this outbreak. FDA collected and analyzed product samples as part of the investigation, but all samples were reported as negative for Salmonella. Due to the lack of additional supporting evidence, investigators were unable to determine a specific source of contamination while the outbreak was considered ongoing. This outbreak is over. All product is past shelf life and is no longer on the market. There is no ongoing risk to public health.
