Fruit and vegetables sales recover in Sweden, study finds
Fruit and vegetables sales in Sweden is showing signs of recovery this year after sharp declines in 2022 and 2023 as inflationary pressures weighed on consumers. Sales of fruit and vegetables increased 3.3% year on year in the first half of 2024, according to the latest data from Dagligvaruindex Frukt och Grönt (Grocery Index Fruit and Vegetables). The volume of fruit and vegetables sales increased by 5.1% in the second quarter compared to the same period in 2023, data showed. Mats Dalin, purchasing manager for fruit and vegetables at Coop Sweden, stated: "We are very pleased to see that our customers and members can once again prioritise buying fruit and vegetables".

Poland: Eurocash Group reports a weak first half due to slower-than-expected economic recovery
Eurocash Group has reported a decline in revenue and profit in the first half as Poland's economy recovers at a slower pace than economists and analysts expected. In the first half, Eurocash Group generated revenue of PLN 15.8bln (€3.7bln), or 1% lower than the first half of 2023.

Discounter Aldi Nord has announced the launch of a new campaign, entitled So einfach geht Frische (Freshness is so easy), which seeks to promote the fresh products available in its stores. Aldi Nord recently started a major price promotion in the fruit and vegetable sector. In the coming weeks, Aldi Nord plans to reduce the prices of numerous fruit and vegetable items. At the start of the promotion, for example, table pears will cost €2.89 per kilogram instead of €3.29, a reduction of 12%.

Morrisons cut prices on over 2,000 products in stores and online for More Card customers
Morrisons reported: "Morrisons has announced its latest value offering for customers with the launch of thousands of significantly lower prices for More Card customers, an increasing range of products included in its Aldi and Lidl Price Match promise and a continuation of its Low Everyday Price commitment - permanently low prices on products customers love. Morrisons has also added over 70 products to its Aldi and Lidl Price Match which launched in February this year to reassure customers that hundreds of weekly essentials are still the same price or lower than those offered by Aldi and Lidl. These further products include weekly staples such as broccoli, mince, cheese, potatoes and rice".
