Blueberry movement from Washington and Oregon to decrease as season wraps up

This report provides trend analysis of the volume and prices of Seasonal Perishable commodities. Volume represents current week, and prices represent open (spot) market sales by first handlers on product of generally good quality and condition unless otherwise stated and may include promotional allowances or other incentives. The charts provide graphic representation of the volume and prices of the major commodities this week based on seasonal volume.

Avocados supplies from Mexico crossing through Texas are peaking on smaller sized fruit 60-84s, causing pressure to drop prices. The larger sized fruit 32-36s continue to hold prices as availability is tight. Shippers do not expect a change to sizing anytime soon. Trading of 32-40s is moderate, others are fairly light. Prices of conventional 40s and organic 48s are generally unchanged, others are lower. Cartons 2 layers Hass 32-40s are mostly 68.25-70.25, 48s are mostly 66.25- 68.25, 60s are mostly 44.25-46.25, 70s are mostly 34.25-36.25, and 84s are mostly 26.25-28.25; organic 48s are mostly 73.25-76.25, 60s are mostly 66.25-68.25, and 70s are mostly 56.25- 58.25. Extra services are included. There remains a wide range in price.

Movement from South District, California is expected to remain about the same. Trading early was fairly active, late is moderate. Prices of conventional 32-36s and 60-70s along with organic 70s are lower, others are generally unchanged. Cartons 2 layers Hass 32-40s are mostly 68.25-70.25, 48s are mostly 67.25-70.25, 60s are mostly 52.25-54.25, 70s are mostly 40.25-42.25, and 84s are mostly 30.25-32.25; organic 48s are mostly 76.25-78.25, 60s are mostly 68.25-70.25, and 70s are mostly 58.25-60.25. Extra services are included. There remains a wide range in price.

Cucumber movement from Mexico crossing through Texas is expected to increase. Trading early was moderate, late is active. Prices are much higher. 1 1/9-bushel cartons medium are mostly 20.95-22.95, fair quality are mostly 16.95-18.95, ordinary quality are 12.95-14.95, large are mostly 22.95-24.95. Quality and condition are variable. Movement from Mexico crossings through Otay Mesa, California is expected to decrease slightly. Supplies are fairly light with most shipments delivered against prior bookings and/or prior commitments. There are very few new F.O.B. sales. Trading early was active, late is moderate. Prices are higher. 1 1/9-bushel cartons of medium are mostly 19.95, large are mostly 18.95, fair quality are mostly 16.95, ordinary quality are mostly 8.95-9.00. Cartons 36s are mostly 10.00-10.95. Quality and condition are variable. Movement expected to increase going into the Labor Day holiday.

Trading is fairly active. Prices are higher. 1 1/9-bushel cartons of medium are mostly 22.85-24.85, fair quality are 12.85-14.84. Cartons 24s are 8.85- 10.85. Movement from Western and Central New York is expected to remain about the same. Trading is active. Prices are higher. 1 1/9-bushel cartons/crates of medium are 24.00, fair quality are 13.00-18.00. Movement from Western North Carolina is expected to remain the same although supplies remain in too few hands to establish a market.

Green Bell Pepper movement from San Joaquin Valley, California is expected to remain about the same. Trading is moderate. Prices are slightly lower. 1 1/9-bushel cartons extra-large are 20.95-22.95, large are 18.95-20.95, irregular sized fair quality are 14.95-16.95. Quality generally good. Movement from Michigan is expected to remain about the same. Trading is moderate. Prices are unchanged. 1 1/9-bushel cartons jumbo are 20.00, medium fair quality are 16.00.

Quality is generally good. Movement from Western North Carolina is expected to remain about the same. Trading is moderate. Prices are slightly lower. 1 1/9-bushel carton jumbo are 16.00-18.00, extra-large are 16.00-18.00, extra largelarge fair quality are 14.00-16.00.

Tomato movement from Mexico crossings through Texas is expected to increase. Trading is moderate. Prices are much lower. Vine Ripes cartons 2-layer 4x4-4x5s are mostly 16.95-18.95, 5x5-5x6s are mostly 14.95-16.95; 25-pound cartons loose 4x4-4x5 sizes are mostly 16.95-18.95, and 5x5-5x6 sizes are mostly 15.95-16.95. Quality is generally good.

Movement from Central District, California is expected to decrease. Trading is moderate. Prices of extra-large are lower, large are slightly lower, and medium are much lower. 25-pound cartons loose Mature Greens extra-large are mostly 22.00, large are mostly 22.00-25.00, medium are 14.00. Quality is generally good. Movement from Alabama is expected to decrease. Trading is moderate. Prices are lower. Extra services are included. 25 pounds carton loose 85 percent U.S.

One or Better Mature Greens 5x6 and 6x6 sizes are 17.00-18.00. 25-pound cartons Vine Ripes of jumbo and extra-large are 16.00-17.00. Quality is generally good. Movement from Mexico crossings through Otay Mesa, California is expected to increase slightly. Supplies are fairly light. Trading is moderate. Prices are much lower. Cartons 2-layer Vine Ripes 4x4-
4x5s are mostly 18.00-20.00, 5x5s mostly are 16.00-18.00, 5x6s mostly are 14.00-16.00. Quality is variable. Movement from Western North Carolina is expected to increase. Trading is active at lower prices. Prices are lower. Vine Ripe 25lb carton extra-large are 18.00-22.00, large are 16.00-20.00.

Blueberry movement from Washington and Oregon is expected to decrease seasonally as the season is expected to wrap up in the next two weeks. Trading is moderate, supplies are tightening. Prices of 12 1-pint cups are higher, 12 6-oz cups are generally unchanged. Flats 12 6-oz cups with lids medium-large are mostly 14.00-16.00, flats 12 1-pint cups with lids medium-large are mostly 20.00-22.00; organic flats 6-oz cups with lids medium-large are mostly 18.00-20.00, 12 1-pint cups are mostly 29.00- 31.00. Quality is variable due to rain.

Movement from Michigan is expected to decrease seasonally. Trading early was moderate, however demand for Labor Day holiday advertisements nearly exceeds supply. Prices are slightly higher. Flats 12/1-pt cups with lids large are mostly 22.00-24.00. Quality is generally good. Movement from British Columbia Canada crossings through Northwest Washington is expected to decrease sharply as heavy rain effected quality and condition of the berries. Most berries are not meeting Canada One quality and are not able to be sold to the fresh market. Trading is moderate. Prices of 12 1-pint cups are higher, 12 6-oz cups are generally unchanged. Canada One flats 12 6-oz cups with lids medium-large are mostly 14.00-16.00, flats 12 1-pint cups with lids medium-large are mostly 18.00-20.00.
