Impact of wildfires in São Paulo's citrus regions expected to be minimal

Recent wildfires in São Paulo state have affected various citrus areas, particularly in the central-north region, as reported by Cepea. Despite concerns, the impact on citrus fruit volume in the market is expected to be minimal. The affected areas were relatively small, and rapid responses from landowners, coupled with rainfall, aided in controlling the fires. Other crops, like sugarcane, suffered more pronounced damage.

The orange market has seen historically high prices this year, both for in natura consumption and industrial use, driven by the season's limited supply and strong industrial demand. By the end of August, the price for a 40.8-kilo box was BRL 100.00, on tree. However, a cold wave in late August led to reduced consumer activity in the orange market, a trend exacerbated by the month's end. Despite this, the in natura market's quotations remained supported by the scarcity of supply and the elevated prices of industrial contracts.
