Holland: Retail turnover up by almost 3% in July
Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported that retail turnover was 2.6% higher in July 2024 than in July 2023. Sales volume was up by 2.1%. Turnover in supermarkets remained virtually unchanged, while turnover in specialty shops was up by 9.6%.

South African supermarket group Shoprite lifts annual profit by 7.2%
Reuters reported: "South Africa's biggest supermarket group Shoprite's full-year headline earnings rose by 7.2% on double-digit sales growth, it said. The group reported a solid financial performance with revenue increasing by 12.0% to R246.1bln (€12.55bln). Its core Supermarkets RSA division saw a 12.3% increase in merchandise sales, reaching R195.0bln (€9.95bln)".

US: H-E-B acquires property for new store in North Texas
H-E-B has acquired property in Irving, with plans to open its first H-E-B store there, in the Las Colinas community. The Irving H-E-B store will be built at Interstate 635 and Olympus Boulevard, in front of the former Fry's electronics store. Construction is expected to start later this year. It's expected to open in late 2026.
