Chile's avocado sector expects a notable increase in Hass avocado production this season, which begins in September of this year. The Chilean Avocado Committee estimates the country will produce 200,000 tons in the 2024-25 season, i.e. 33.3% more than the 150,000 tons produced in the previous season. Carmen Gloria Lüttges, president of the association, attributes this growth to a better fruit set on the productive hectares thanks to more favorable weather conditions. She also said this would be the best season in the last three years.
55% of the total production, equivalent to 110,000 tons, is expected to be destined for domestic consumption. Lüttges stressed that the domestic market continues to be a priority for them, as Chile is one of the largest consumers of Hass avocado worldwide, second only to Mexico. This underlines how important avocado is in the country and its consumption tradition. It is one of the crops with the highest percentage of production destined for the local market.
The country will export 90,000 tons of Chilean Hass avocado this season. Europe will be the main destination, accounting for 74% of exports. Latin America follows with 10.9% of shipments, Asia with 10.2%, and the United States with 5.3%. According to Lüttges, Argentina will play an important role in the Latin American market because of this market's growing interest in this fruit's nutritional properties and excellent flavor. She also said these figures will be constantly updated throughout the season as it develops.
