Brazil gains access to Japan's market for Hass avocado exports

The Japanese government has granted authorization for the export of Hass avocados from Brazil, marking a new chapter for Brazilian agribusiness and offering a broader range of fruit options to the Japanese consumer base. This development not only enhances the variety of fruits available in Japan but also strengthens Brazil's position in a highly selective market.

In terms of agricultural trade, Japan emerged as the fourth-largest importer of Brazilian agricultural goods in 2023, with transactions amounting to $4.1 billion. The momentum continued into 2024, with agricultural exports to Japan totaling $1.71 billion in the initial seven months. Specifically, in the fruit sector, Brazil's exports to Japan stood at $3.29 million in 2024.

This milestone represents the 104th market opening for Brazilian agribusiness within the year, totaling 182 market openings across 58 destinations since early 2023. These accomplishments underscore the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), highlighting their commitment to expanding Brazil's agricultural export footprint.
