The famed factory in Galilee, Israel ceased operations

The well-known fruit and vegetable processing factory "Pri HaGalil" in the Galilee region of northern Israel has stopped its work. This closure presents a challenge for the region, which already faces a shortage of jobs. Local farmers, who supplied the factory with produce, will also be impacted.

In recent years, the factory had financial problems and was losing money. Attempts to sell the factory did not succeed, so the owners decided to close it in May. This week, the factory officially stopped working. In May, 80 employees were laid off, and now an additional 50 workers have lost their jobs.

The factory's troubles began several years ago when the Ministry of Economy increased the number of duty-free fruit and vegetable import tenders. The gradual reduction of tariffs on imported frozen vegetables made it impossible for "Pri HaGalil" to compete with cheaper imports, rendering the factory's production unprofitable.
