Spanish growing group targets 15 percent growth for 24/25 season

Grupo Agroponiente, which collaborates with 3,800 farmers, has 25 collection centers, seven packaging warehouses, five daily auctions, and more than 2,000 employees, aims for the 24/25 season to grow by at least another 15% in volume, thereby nearing 400 million euros in revenue.

Grupo Agroponiente has officially concluded the 2023/2024 season. After growing more than 7% in the previous season (2022/2023), the company reached 325 million kilos of commercialized products in this new agricultural period, accelerating growth to 13%. The forecast for the 24/25 season indicates even further improvement, with an expected growth of at least 15-20%.

Regarding this, Grupo Agroponiente's CEO, Imanol Almudí, stated, "The company's expansion and growth have surpassed initial expectations, with a month-by-month acceleration observed. The current objective is to maintain sustainable growth while providing quality service to both farmers and clients, aiming to position the company as a leading entity in the production and commercialization of fruits and vegetables in Southern Europe."

For the upcoming season, Agroponiente has increased its own greenhouse production area by 50%, expanded its supply network with three new collection centers, and launched the project to relaunch the former AgrupaAdra, with a new auction and packaging center in this locality of Almería.

Product distribution for the season included 75 million kilos of tomatoes, marking them as the primary product, followed by 62 million kilos of zucchini, 56 million of peppers, 48 million of cucumbers, 50 million of watermelons, 22 million of eggplants, 7 million of melons, and 3 million kilos of green beans.

In addition to financial metrics, the campaign has also been notable for its alignment with the company's core values. The 23/24 season saw the full adoption of the 'conscious farming' approach, focusing on environmentally harmonious production, commercialization, and organizational practices. This approach has facilitated notable reductions in water and energy usage, as well as carbon emissions, setting the foundation for Grupo Agroponiente to pursue B-Corp certification, a first in its industry.

"It is recognized that achieving profitability, efficiency, and growth can coincide with environmental respect and the implementation of policies to minimize consumption in every aspect of operations for enhanced efficiency. The 'conscious farming' initiative, designed to be a defining feature of the industry, has been integrated as a priority across various departments within the company, a move that has been met with considerable satisfaction," stated Imanol Almudí.
