Prices for Ukrainian pears are 32% lower than last year

This week, wholesale markets in Ukraine have recorded a decrease in the wholesale prices of locally grown pears, according to EastFruit project analysts. Market participants believe that this price situation is due to the seasonal increase in the supply of these products, while the demand from wholesale companies for these fruits remains low.

Currently, locally grown pears are being offered at wholesale prices of 15-30 UAH/kg ($0.36-0.73/kg), which is on average 25% cheaper than the previous week. Regular monitoring has shown that prices for pears have been steadily decreasing since mid-August of this year, due to the continuously increasing supply of products in the market.

It's worth noting that the moderately mild weather conditions during the winter-spring period of this season have led to a noticeable increase in the average yield of pears in Ukraine. As a result, the significant increase in production has had a negative impact on market prices. An exception here is the Vinnytsia region of Ukraine, where producers lost 30% or more of the future fruit harvest due to frost and hail in the spring. However, this had little impact on the overall market condition in this segment.

Comparing the pear market situation in Ukraine with other countries in the EastFruit project's monitoring region, Ukraine currently offers the most affordable pears. This fact underscores the growing interest of Ukrainian gardeners in cultivating these fruits in recent seasons.

It's also notable that as of now, wholesale prices for pears in Ukraine are already on average 32% cheaper than during the same period last year.
