UNICA continues to expand with the incorporation of Surinver

Surinver, based in the Spanish municipality of Pilar de la Horadada, in the province of Alicante, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this season, has become part of UNICA. With the incorporation, Surinver is bringing some new products into UNICA's catalogue, such as maize, green celery, mini Romaine or radicchio.

This integration will also make it possible to have a year-round production cycle for products such as bell peppers. UNICA is the Spanish leader in pepper production, with 100 million kilos; a volume that will increase with Surinver's contribution, as peppers have a prominent place in its catalogue, with more than 16 million kilos consisting mostly of bell peppers.

Diversification and expansion in the ready-to-eat convenience food range
Another significant new development is the entry into the ready-to-eat convenience food segment, which will help increase the value of UNICA's production. Surinver has a complete line of ready-to-eat solutions, consisting of ready-made vegetable dishes. Its ready-to-eat range features many products, from grated tomato and traditional roasted vegetables to some new ones, like quinoa and vegetable salads and caramelized vegetables. The organic division accounts for more than 30% of sales and offers both ready-to-eat and fresh products.

For its part, UNICA closed last season with 620 million euros in turnover. This increase is due to organic growth within the cooperatives that make up UNICA and the contribution of Frutas Segura y García, from Níjar, Almeria, which rejoined the company at the end of the season, and which is giving a boost to the organic line. For the current season 24/25, UNICA expects significant growth thanks to the incorporation of the company from Alicante, as well as the organic growth of the cooperatives that already form part of the group. With around 200 members, Surinver handled 39 million kilos and had a turnover of 42 million euros last season with. Of its 950 hectares in production, 234 hectares are under glass and 716 hectares are in the open ground.

This operation is strengthening UNICA's position by expanding its range of products and schedule and allowing it to improve its service to its customers and to further differentiate itself. All this is geared towards increasing the profitability of growers, who are at the core of UNICA's strategy.
