Already recognized as French people's favorite origin (according to two CSA surveys in 2021 and 2023), the bananas of Guadeloupe and Martinique have reached a new milestone. In August, they were voted France's favorite brand in the "banana brands" category, ahead of 9 competing brands.
"We are honored to receive the title of Favorite Brand of the French, which reflects the commitment and passion of our entire sector and all our producers. This distinction makes us one of France's favorite brands, alongside such prestigious names as Decathlon, Ibis, BIC, La Laitière and Le Petit Marseillais. It is a real source of pride," explains Audrey Ktourza, senior group manager at UGPBAN (Union of Banana Producers of Guadeloupe and Martinique).
Number 1 in 6 items
The bananas of Guadeloupe and Martinique took first place on the podium, after a study carried out on August 28-29th, 2024 by the OpinionWay panel, with a representative sample of 1,051 French people aged 18 and over. The brand came in first place for taste, usefulness, commitment, trust, quality and proximity! It came out on top by a significant margin, ahead of 9 competing brands in its category.
Agro-ecological production
French bananas are grown on family farms in Guadeloupe and Martinique by 500 independent producers. Good agricultural practices based on agroecology (crop rotation, fallow land, biological control...) make these banana plantations refuges for many species. There are up to 200 earthworms per square meter and more than 200 species of insects (Cihence 2015 and Biotope 2023 studies). These natural predators control banana pests and protect the crops. As the largest agricultural employer in the French West Indies, the banana sector accounts for 8,500 direct and indirect jobs.
90% of employees have permanent contracts. The French banana sector is defending our social model in the face of international competition.
