Brazil has witnessed a notable increase in its papaya exports, with a 13% rise in volume up to August 2024, as reported by Comex Stat. The country managed to ship 28,000 tonnes of papaya between January and August, generating revenue of $37 million, which marks a 4% increase from the previous year. This revenue figure represents a record in the historical data tracked by Comex Stat since its inception in 1997.
In the European market, Brazilian papaya holds a significant presence, influencing both domestic and export prices. A decrease in domestic supply typically results in higher domestic prices, which in turn, elevates the export prices. The first half of the year saw a compromise in both the supply and quality of papayas across most regions, attributed to high temperatures adversely affecting the plants.
