On September 16, 2024, the California Department of Food and Agriculture declared an expansion of the Huanglongbing (HLB) quarantine in San Diego County. The expansion was prompted by a positive HLB test from a mandarin tree located in a residential area of the Fallbrook neighborhood. As a result, a mandatory quarantine zone has been established, encompassing a five-mile radius from the site of the detection. Within this zone, the movement of all host nursery stock, along with host plants and their parts, is strictly prohibited.
Additionally, this recent detection integrates further sections of San Diego County into the Bulk Citrus Regional Quarantine Zone 6. Consequently, commercial citrus growers within the affected area are now required to implement extra mitigation measures for the transportation of citrus products into or out of the designated HLB quarantine area.
