Sweet Sensation harvest in full swing

The harvest of Sweet Sensation started last week. Most plots will be harvested by the end of this week. Just under 5 million kilos are expected to come off the trees this year.

Quality, taste, and color
The size of the pears is good this year. Most pears fall within the retail sizes, and there are hardly any small pears. Like other pear varieties, some Sweet Sensation growers have experienced hailstorms on their plots, resulting in greater quality differences between the various fields this season.

The pears that fall short of the Sweet Sensation requirements, but are still of good quality, are sold under the brand name Sweet Dored. There is no difference in taste or color; both quality pears are beautifully red-blushed and deliciously sweet this year.

Start of sales season
Pear sales start in mid-October. Most pears will again be sold in Germany this season. In addition, demand in Eastern European countries remains high. In the UK, Sweet Sensation is mainly sold as "ready-to-eat".

Ton van Wiggen (Sweet Sensation sales manager) says: "Based on the experiences of previous years, the market situation, and the discussions we have had so far with our regular customers, we are looking forward to the season with great confidence for both Sweet Sensation and Sweet Dored."
