In Huaping County, located in Yunnan Province of southwest China, the mango industry has been experiencing growth, with farmers engaged in the cultivation, harvesting, and distribution processes. The county, benefiting from its favorable climatic conditions, has become a key area for late-ripening mango varieties. According to Luo Qing, a local mango distributor, the peak season for mango harvesting spans from July to October, with the industry catering to markets as far as Singapore.
The agricultural output from mango cultivation in Huaping has seen a notable increase, with the planted area reaching 459,000 mu and a production output of 440,000 tonnes last year. This has contributed significantly to the local economy, engaging nearly 100,000 people in the mango industry. The output for the current year is projected to exceed 465,000 tonnes, further enhancing its economic value.
Efforts to modernize the mango industry have been implemented, including the establishment of a mango industry development center and the adoption of advanced agricultural technologies. These initiatives have facilitated improvements in cultivation and processing techniques, contributing to the industry's growth.
The integration of e-commerce and livestreaming has opened new sales channels for Huaping mangoes, with platforms like Lijiang Xinmeier Agricultural Science & Technology Development Co., Ltd. playing a pivotal role in marketing the fruit online. Additionally, the county has leveraged its mango industry to promote agritourism, inviting visitors to experience mango picking and enjoy the scenic beauty of its orchards.
As part of China's broader strategy to modernize rural industries, Huaping's mango industry exemplifies the potential for agricultural sectors to contribute to rural revitalization and economic development.
