Peruvian blueberries make their debut at Tianjin port in China

A shipment of 11.7 tons of Peruvian blueberries arrived at Tianjin Port on September 18, marking the first time South American blueberries have been imported through a northern Chinese port after a 34-day journey. Peru is recognized for its export of high-quality fresh blueberries, with the Hass brand in this shipment noted for its unique fruity aroma, rich flavor, and exceptional nutritional value.

The blueberry season's peak is anticipated to begin in late October, promising larger quantities of the fruit to be delivered to the northern market through Tianjin Port. This is expected to maintain a steady supply of premium fruits to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The establishment of a direct shipping route between South America and Tianjin Port in December 2023 has reduced transit times, facilitating over 30 voyages and creating an efficient maritime logistics corridor for fresh fruit imports and exports between northern China and South America, including products like white shrimp, frozen beef, cherries, red wine, chemicals, glass, coiled steel, and vehicles.

To ensure the freshness and safety of the blueberries, Tianjin Port Group has enhanced its collaboration with port units, improving terminal operations and service capabilities, including customized services for expedited customs clearance. In an initiative to create a green logistics channel, hydrogen-powered trucks were used for the long-distance transport of the blueberries, with conditions monitored throughout the journey. The blueberries have been quickly distributed to consumers via Wumart supermarkets and the Dmall app, demonstrating the economic benefits of the port's development.
