Stats NZ has reported a record-setting year for New Zealand's kiwifruit exports, totaling $3.1 billion for the year ending August 2024. This represents a 20% increase compared to the previous year. Viki Ward, Stats NZ international trade manager, highlighted that this season's export values are unprecedented. The export season, primarily spanning from March to November, saw gold kiwifruit exports surge to $2.4 billion, marking a 24% increase due to a 23% improvement in quality. Meanwhile, green kiwifruit exports also grew, reaching $737 million, a 9.9% rise attributed to a 9% price increase. Notably, gold kiwifruit commands a higher unit price than its green counterpart. China and the European Union emerge as the leading importers of gold and green kiwifruit, respectively.
