Peruvian ginger exports fall in August

Peru exported 4,708 tons of ginger for $9.69 million in August of this year, i.e. 33% less volume and 18% less value than in the same month of last year. Despite this decrease, the price per kilogram increased by 23%, going from $1.67 to $2.06.

The United States continued to be the main destination for Peruvian ginger, accounting for 46% of the total exported. During this period, the US purchased 2,111 tons for $4.46 million, i.e. 22% less volume and 2% less value over the previous year. However, the average price in this market increased by 26%, going from $1.68 per kilogram to $2.11.

The Netherlands was the second biggest destination market with a 36.8% share. This market purchased 1,653 tons worth $3.57 million, i.e. a 31% and 10% decrease in volume and value, respectively. The average price in this market increased by 29%, going from $1.68 to $2.16 per kilogram.

Canada ranked third, with a 4.7% share. This country imported 247 tons of Peruvian ginger worth $457,000, i.e. a 45% and 42% decrease in volume and value. The average price in Canada increased by 6% to $1.85 per kilogram.
