"Morocco's blueberry industry will surpass Mexico in a couple of years"

The blueberry sector convened in Morocco for the XXXIII International Blueberry Seminar this September, witnessing a convergence of specialists, entrepreneurs, and investors with local producers in Tangier. The seminar, characterized by a comprehensive agenda covering cultivation's agronomic and commercial facets, preceded a Technical Tour to Larache's blueberry fields, hosted by Blueberries Consulting and international experts.

During the tour, participants visited several fields, noting the performance of various blueberry varieties and the Moroccan industry's potential. A notable observation was made by a visitor, "From what I have seen in Morocco, I believe that this industry will surpass Mexico in a couple of years," highlighting the efficient management, technological adoption, and professional production involved, alongside governmental support and favorable geographic positioning relative to markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

The tour's first stop was Bench Berry, observing Sekoya Pop and Olympus varieties. Following this, Phyto Loukkus showcased Mayra, Kirra, and Costa group varieties. Driscoll's and Iberry fields were also on the itinerary, where varieties like Corina, Rosita, Cascade, Eterna, Madeira, and Manila were examined.

Despite challenges such as water quality disparities, Morocco's blueberry industry is poised for growth and efficiency, aiming for a strong presence in the European market and expansion into the Middle East and China. The tour included international experts like Bruno Mezzetti, highlighting the global interest in Morocco's burgeoning blueberry sector.'
