Strawberry and blueberry exports from Spain show growth

Spain's exportation of strawberries and blueberries, primarily cultivated in Huelva, exhibited a 12% increase in the initial seven months of 2024 compared to the previous year. Strawberries reached 251.072 tonnes, marking a 4% growth, while blueberries saw an 82.971 tonnes output, up by 20%. Economically, strawberries and blueberries generated 767 million euros, a 13% rise. The overall fruit export sector in Spain also saw an uptick, with a 9% volume increase to 4 million tons and a value rise of 7% to 6.107 million euros from January to July.

This growth encompasses not only soft fruits but also stone fruits like nectarines and peaches, alongside an increase in watermelon and melon exports. Contrarily, the vegetable export volume was up by 9% at 3.6 million tons, despite a slight 1% decrease in value. Peppers, tomatoes, and lettuce led these exports. Meanwhile, Spain's fruit import volume declined by 6%, yet its value grew by 7%, with notable increases in avocado imports.
