Dillen Langenberg, Tovano:

"Strong demand for first arrivals of dried Turkish figs despite high prices"

The new harvest of dried figs from Ephesus has been loaded in Türkiye for shipment to Tovano in Maasdijk. "These mountain figs are highly prized by connoisseurs. The best quality figs come from the mountains, where the figs have the most flesh," says Dillen Langenberg from the nut and dried fruit wholesale company Tovano in Maasdijk.

The fig harvest is proving to be quite challenging this year, and it is expected that there will be significantly fewer figs available. "Nonetheless, many customers are opting for the best quality despite the higher prices and are keen to take advantage of the first arrivals," says Dillen.

"While we sell figs year-round, there is certainly a specific segment of quality buyers within the fresh produce wholesalers and exporters who eagerly await the new harvest from Turkey each year. Additionally, ethnic customers are also very familiar with them," Dillen concludes.

What is new this year is that besides the well-known fig numbers 2 and 4 packed in boxes of 15 kg (3x 5 kg), a slightly smaller size, namely fig number 6, will also be packed in boxes of 7.5 kg (3x 2.5 kg).
