Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has announced plans for the development of Vadhvan port, including the establishment of a world-class agro-processing unit. This initiative is aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and expanding the export capabilities of the region. The proposal was made during a meeting with the Palghar District Vegetables, Fruits, and Flowers Producers' Association. JNPA intends to provide local farmers with advanced facilities, specialized training, and better access to global markets.
Unmesh Sharad Wagh, Chairman of JNPA, emphasized the project's focus on empowering the local agricultural community by offering them modern facilities and essential skills training. This effort is expected to improve their productivity and income by facilitating their entry into international markets.
As part of the initiative, a headquarters building for the Palghar District Vegetables, Fruits, and Flowers Producers' Association will be constructed, featuring state-of-the-art facilities such as soil testing labs. Farmers will also have access to JNPA's agro and cold storage facilities to aid in skill development. Additionally, VPPL plans to collaborate with Konkan Krishi Vidyapith to possibly establish a local extension campus for further educational opportunities. In a broader skill development effort, JNPA will partner with the Directorate General of Shipping to create programs that prepare local youth for careers as seafarers. A detailed action plan for these initiatives is expected to be unveiled shortly.
