Vegetable pricing dynamics in Ukraine's retail and market sectors

The landscape of vegetable pricing within Ukraine exhibits a varied range across both supermarkets and wholesale markets. This variance is evident in the cost of essential borscht ingredients such as potatoes, carrots, onions, and beets. A study conducted by the Khvilya portal highlighted this diversity by comparing prices in notable locations including Shuvary, Pochatok, and Stolichny markets alongside several supermarket chains.

In supermarkets, the price for potatoes averages at 26.32 UAH per kilogram, with the lowest price at 24.20 UAH in Auchan and the highest at 29.90 UAH in Megamarket. Auchan also offers young potatoes at 40.60 UAH per kilogram and pink potatoes within a price range of 19.90 to 29.90 UAH. Carrots maintain an average price of 18.82 UAH per kilogram across supermarkets.

Conversely, in the Shuvary market, prices tend to be lower with beets at 11.50 UAH, standard potatoes and carrots at 17.50 UAH per kilogram. The Pochatok market showcases a broader selection, including young carrots at 40 UAH, old potatoes at 30 UAH, and a variety of beets priced between 25 to 40 UAH per kilogram. Onion prices here average at 30 UAH per kilogram. The Stolichny market offers vegetables at intermediate prices, with potatoes at around 18 UAH, onions at 14 UAH, carrots at 17 UAH, and beets at 15 UAH per kilogram.
