Breadfruit exportation thrives in Saint Lucia

Local exporters in Saint Lucia report a thriving export market for breadfruit, with optimistic views on the fruit's future. Export Saint Lucia has initiated a branding effort, labeling the product as "Lucian Breadfruit" to enhance its international market appeal. Waitson Charles of Southern Exports highlighted breadfruit's potential, comparing its possible impact to that of bananas, historically a major contributor to Saint Lucia's GDP.

Despite competition from markets like Jamaica and Puerto Rico, Saint Lucian breadfruit is often preferred by importers for its quality and flavor. However, the fruit's short shelf life presents a challenge, requiring air freight for export, which increases costs. Despite this, the rebranding initiative and the established preference for Lucian breadfruit among importers are seen as positive indicators for the market's growth.
