Impact of heavy rains on farmers in Jamaica

Agriculture Minister Floyd Green has reported that around 150 farmers have experienced the adverse effects of recent heavy rainfall throughout Jamaica. The inclement weather, attributed to a broad trough in the Western Caribbean, prevailed from Saturday to Wednesday, affecting numerous parishes. In a statement to IRIE FM News, Green highlighted that the agricultural sectors in South Manchester and South-East St. Elizabeth bore the brunt of the weather's impact, with crops such as escallions, tomatoes, and various vegetables suffering damage. He further noted that the government has initiated assessments and is poised to extend support to the affected farmers shortly.
