Vietnam targets $7 billion in fruit and vegetable export revenue amid robust growth and market expansion

Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are on track for robust growth in the latter part of the year, aiming for a 7 billion USD export revenue target. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reports a 4.63 billion USD export turnover from January to August, a year-on-year increase of over 30%. Vietnam's strategic position for export acceleration is strengthened by recent agreements with the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) on plant quarantine and food safety for frozen durians and fresh coconuts, signaling potential market expansion.

VINA T&T Import Export Service Trading Co. Ltd, under CEO Nguyen Dinh Tung, anticipates increased revenue from fresh coconut exports to China, adding to its market presence in the US and Japan. Vietnam's bananas and mangoes are also gaining market share in China, with significant exports making Vietnam the top supplier of these fruits to China.

Expansion is not limited to China; the US, the Republic of Korea (RoK), and ASEAN countries are also key markets showing promising growth. The recent approval for Vietnamese fresh pomelos exports to the RoK exemplifies this trend. The Ministry of Industry and Trade's Agency of Foreign Trade highlights the opportunity for export growth, especially for durians, as Vietnam continues to supply while competitors' seasons end. However, challenges such as pesticide residues and heavy metal contamination need addressing to improve product quality.

Processed fruits and vegetables are forecasted to generate 1.4 billion USD in revenue, marking a significant contribution to the sector's export value and providing relief during peak harvest seasons.
