CIV presents new features at Fruit Attraction 2024

Innovation programme for strawberries, apples and pears

Bringing innovation to fruit growing for a more efficient and sustainable future is the mission of CIV, an Italian breeding company based in the province of Ferrara that stands out for its commitment to varietal development at the service of the fruit industry. Fruit Attraction 2024 in Madrid is a special occasion for CIV, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary with an exclusive event on 7 October. During the exhibition, CIV will present the novelties of its genetic improvement programme for apples and strawberries, as well as the launch of new projects such as the Cheeky® pear.

Strawberry Larissa

Strawberries: innovative varieties for the Mediterranean climate
Federico Stanzani, Commercial Director of CIV, says: "In recent years, our strawberry breeding programme has focused on varieties suitable for the Mediterranean climate. At Fruit Attraction, we will present Larissa® CIVL326*, a new early and high yielding strawberry that will enrich our range of low chilling varieties."

Stanzani continues: "Larissa® meets the needs of those looking for a high yielding strawberry with medium to large fruit size. Shayda® remains our premium variety, thanks to its consistent yield, regular shape and excellent quality, ideal for export."

Lilibet, the new apple from CIV research

Apple tree: the Lilibet® project in collaboration with Sanifrutta
The new Lilibet® bicoloured apple project, the result of collaboration between Sanifrutta and CIV, will be launched in Madrid. "This project was born from the need to bring to Europe an early apple with exceptional organoleptic characteristics, such as sweetness, crunchiness and a brilliant bicolour, without forgetting a long shelf life," says Stanzani. "Lilibet® has been developed in response to the current climatic challenges, is well adapted to growing in the foothills, is easy to handle and resistant to scab. This variety will be the protagonist of an exclusive project in Europe aimed at introducing a concrete innovation in the apple sector, thanks to the synergies between Sanifrutta and CIV."

Cheeky pear

Pears: The new European project Cheeky®
Among the new strategic partnerships launched in recent months is the exclusive agreement with Culdevco (Pty) Limited for the commercial development of the CapeRose PBR / Cheeky® pear. This master use license agreement covers a wide strategic area, including Europe, Turkey and Israel, and is an important step towards the large-scale introduction of innovative pear varieties. "Thanks to this partnership", concludes Stanzani, "we are committed to the promotion of a pear variety with exceptional characteristics, able to meet the needs of the market in terms of quality and resistance to adverse weather conditions."

The consortium will be present at the fair in Madrid, at stand 8C12 in Hall 8, where it will display the most important projects of the year. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the most successful varieties, especially in the Spanish production area. The CIV positions itself as an innovative partner in the fruit sector, with the aim of developing varieties that meet the needs of fruit growers and creating tailor-made projects that make fruit growing more sustainable and efficient.
