New avocado and mango handling, sorting, and ripening plant in Pedreguer

Tropicsur joins forces with a leading avocado producer in the Valencian Community

Tropicsur, a leading company in the production and marketing of avocados and mangoes located in Alhaurín el Grande (Málaga), is expanding its business by joining forces with one of the largest avocado producers in the Valencian Community. This strategic alliance aims to increase production and triple Tropicsur's turnover in the coming years.

To this end, they will set up a new plant for handling, selecting, and ripening avocado and mango all year round in Pedreguer (Alicante). The new facilities, with a capacity of 2,800 m², will have an initial workforce of around 35 people and up to 60 workers in the medium term. The plant will be operational from November, coinciding with the start of the Spanish avocado season.

"The market demands new formulas. This new logistics point is key to adding value to our production prioritizing service, quality, and the company's sustainability," the company's management stated.

With this expansion, the company from Malaga aims to get closer to producers in the Levante region and the main large retail purchasing centers.

Tropicsur has been marketing avocado from the Valencian Community for 8 years with a significant field quota that increases every year. It produces avocados in more than 100 hectares of its own in different areas of the provinces of Valencia and Alicante. This expansion will increase the company's productive capacity in that region.

Furthermore, this geographical diversification is in line with the aim of reducing the company's carbon footprint, one of its environmental sustainability objectives.

Tropicsur has more than 35 years of experience in the subtropical fruit sector. The company expects a production of 5,000 tons and a turnover of around 13 million euros in 2024. With its facilities located in the Guadalhorce Valley (Malaga), it covers suppliers from all the avocado and mango-producing areas in Andalusia and the Portuguese Algarve.

The company mainly operates in Spain, France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Soon, it will increase its presence in Germany, Eastern Europe, and Asia working with a specialist in these markets.

With the entry of its new producing partner in the Valencian Community, Tropicsur now has more than 120 hectares of avocado cultivation. In addition, the company is working on setting up a new farm to grow mangoes.
