At Fruit Attraction 2024 in Madrid, Smurfit Westrock, in collaboration with Abrafrutas, will present its latest paper-based packaging solutions. These innovations, derived from renewable resources and fully recyclable, aim to enhance the efficiency of supply chains in the agribusiness sector. The event, a significant platform for agricultural product discussions, will occur from October 8 to 10.
Smurfit Westrock's contributions to sustainability include a notable project that replaced 120,000 non-renewable material packages for a fruit exporter, reducing CO2 emissions by 63 tons. This initiative aligns with the European Union's regulations against non-biodegradable packaging materials, demonstrating the potential for corrugated cardboard solutions to improve logistical and storage efficiency.
Vinicius Soares highlighted the balance between functionality, durability, and aesthetic appeal these packaging solutions offer, alongside their environmental benefits and logistical advantages for producers. This approach addresses the increasing demand for sustainable packaging in Europe, where Brazil's fruit exports saw a 26.73% growth in 2023, driven by the region's environmental requirements and the prohibition of single-use plastics. Smurfit Westrock's innovations are positioned to meet these demands, supporting the global shift towards more sustainable packaging options.
