With the arrival of autumn and after abundant rains, the long-awaited mushroom season has begun in Ukraine. While mushrooms can be found across the country, they are most commonly harvested in the forested regions of northern and western Ukraine.
Prices for farmed mushrooms in markets and stores
The most widely available mushrooms for sale are farm-grown button champions. Their prices range from EUR 2.5 for smaller mushrooms to EUR 2.7 for larger ones in markets. In stores, prices fluctuate between EUR 2.1 and EUR 4.2 per kilogram.
Oyster mushrooms are less common in stores and are usually sold pre-packaged. At the "Shuvar" market in Lviv, a 500-gram package costs EUR 2.4.
Prices for wild mushrooms
Wild chanterelles are even rarer on the market. A 500-gram package of these mushrooms costs EUR 5.0.
The highly sought-after porcini mushrooms are the rarest and most expensive. Dried porcini mushrooms are priced at EUR 51.7 per kilogram in markets, while online stores offer them starting at EUR 41.7. A 0.5-litre jar of pickled porcini costs EUR 6.5. Fresh first-grade porcini mushrooms are priced from EUR 9.3 per kilogram.
