Wisconsin celebrates cranberry harvest amid favorable conditions

Wisconsin is currently experiencing its cranberry harvest season, with conditions being favorable for the crop's development. According to Grant Holley, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Cranberry Grower's Association, the recent weather pattern featuring warm days followed by cooler mornings and nights is beneficial for the cranberries, enhancing their size and color. Holley noted that the harvest is approximately halfway completed, with expectations for the process to continue for a few more weeks in central Wisconsin, and even into November for the northern regions.

In recognition of the cranberry's significance to the state, Hailey Heinzel, Wisconsin's Alice in Dairyland, presented a proclamation from Governor Tony Evers, declaring this week as Cranberry Growers Appreciation Week. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the cranberry being named the state fruit and the 30th year of Wisconsin's leadership in cranberry production nationally. The proclamation was made at Cutler Cranberry Company, located between Mather and Camp Douglas, Wisconsin.
