Consumers often face higher prices for vegetables due to various factors along the supply chain from farmers to buyers. To address this issue, Shwapno, the largest retail chain in Bangladesh, has decided to purchase vegetables directly from farmers and offer them to consumers at more affordable prices. Shwapno authorities have stated that they are sourcing products directly from farmers in areas such as Manikganj and Bogura. Vegetables including eggplants, green papayas, bottle gourds, pointed gourds, okras, and cucumbers will be available at Shwapno outlets at prices significantly lower than the open market on Friday and Saturday (October 18 and 19).

'Great news for online retailers in the United Kingdom'
Spending at major British online retailers was 3.2% higher in September than in the same month last year. This marks the first growth since April 2021. After nearly 3.5 years, a turning point has been reached, just as in other European countries. British online spending saw significant growth in the first two weeks of September, according to the IMRG Online Retail Index, which tracks the online sales performance of 220 big market players. It is the first growth in 41 months.

Poland's top supermarket chain fined millions for unfair practices
Poland's largest discount supermarket chain Biedronka has been fined €117.2mln by a regional court for demanding unfair discounts from grocery suppliers. Poland's antitrust and consumer protection regulator (UOKiK) said that the court agreed with the watchdog, which in December 2020 imposed a fine of over 723mln zloty (€167.5mln) on Portugal's Jeronimo Martins Group, the owner of Biedronka, for allegedly making unfair profits at the expense of food suppliers.

South Africa's Pick n Pay sees wider H1 headline loss
South African grocery retailer Pick n Pay forecast a wider half-year headline loss, but said it expects its full-year result before tax and capital items to show a meaningful improvement on the prior year.
