Mirco Zoffoli talks about sales in the persimmon sector

"Prices are good for large-scale retailers, but wholesalers are struggling"

"At the moment, supermarkets are responding well, while wholesalers are struggling and selling less than expected," says Mirco Zoffoli, a salesman at Domenico Laghi in Forlì, as he takes stock of the current kaki market.

"Sales in the large-scale distribution channels are brisk and buoyant. If we were to give a price range, it would be between €2.30 and €2.50/kg for 24-26 in a 4-piece tray with lid. The demand is in line with expectations and the deadlines are being met. The weather, which has been more like autumn than in 2023, for example, has also helped."

The wholesale markets are slow. "The demand is low and, as a result, the prices are likewise low. According to the information that I have, the other products in the fruit sector are also in the same situation. Our hope is that with a further drop in temperatures, there will be some relief."

Domenico Laghi sells to Italian and foreign large-scale retailers and is owned by Jenny Ghiddi. On the other side of the border," concludes Zoffoli, "we have an excellent market in Switzerland, where our persimmons are very much appreciated. In terms of exports, the demand is expected to increase in November."
