First Vietnamese passion fruit shipped to Australia

On October 19, Blue Ocean JSC, part of Ocean Group, celebrated the export of its first batch of passion fruit to Australia. With over 1.5 tons of carefully selected passion fruit, Blue Ocean JSC has become the first Vietnamese company to export this fruit to the Australian market. To meet export standards, specific protocols for growing areas, packaging, and biosecurity must be adhered to, including inspections by relevant authorities.

Additionally, on October 15, a refrigerated truck successfully transported 21.6 tons of fresh Vietnamese coconuts into China through the Hekou border gate, marking the first such shipment imported by road since new market openings were authorized in August. Earlier, another shipment of fresh coconuts, weighing 10 tons, was cleared through the Guangxi border gate. These developments are part of ongoing efforts to enhance trade between Vietnam and China, particularly for high-quality agricultural products.

According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports have reached new record highs. In September 2024 alone, the export turnover soared to $917.25 million, an increase of 8.7% from the previous year. For the first nine months of 2024, the total export value was $3.76 billion, reflecting a 5.64% rise compared to the same period in 2023.

Despite challenges from storm No. 3, which affected raw material areas, many businesses reported increased export turnover. For instance, Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company experienced a 30% increase in exports by sourcing materials from unaffected regions. Vina T&T Company maintained a stable supply due to its strong relationships with farmers and consistent production.

Vietnam has successfully negotiated to export a variety of fruits to major markets, including the U.S. and Australia. Currently, 12 types of fruit are exported to China, while eight types, including passion fruit, are now approved for export to the U.S. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasized the need to seize market opportunities and expand Vietnam's presence in existing markets.

Experts predict that Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports will continue to thrive, potentially reaching and exceeding $7 billion in 2024, driven by seasonal demand and a growing reputation for quality tropical fruits in international markets.
