USDA's NRCS opens applications for disaster assistance in Florida

The USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Florida announced the initiation of applications for disaster assistance funding, targeting counties impacted by hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton. This initiative, starting Oct. 18, aims to distribute around $26 million through the Emergency Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQUIP) to support agricultural stakeholders in restoring storm-damaged lands. The application window is set to close on Dec. 20.

Juan C. Hernandez, the NRCS State conservationist for Florida, emphasized the organization's dedication to aiding the recovery efforts of Florida's agricultural sector. The NRCS will prioritize applications through the ACT NOW process, which fast-tracks those meeting or exceeding a 50-point threshold. This process ensures efficient allocation of EQUIP funds to the most critical areas. A webinar scheduled for Oct. 30 will offer further details on the application process.

Counties eligible for this round of EQUIP funding span across Florida, including Alachua, Bradford, Brevard, and extending to Volusia and Wakulla, among others. This comprehensive list highlights the widespread impact of the mentioned hurricanes on the state's agricultural infrastructure and the NRCS's commitment to statewide recovery efforts.
