Fire damage at Owyhee Produce peeling facility

Shay Myers of Owyhee Produce, through his social media presence on Instagram as @ShayFarmKid and the company's LinkedIn page, reported a fire at the Buck Naked peeling facility during the week of October 14. The incident impacted two out of four peeling lines at the facility. Myers attributed the containment of the fire to the rapid response and efforts of their team, which enabled the preservation of much of the equipment.

Myers detailed that the fire led to the total loss of two peeling lines, with a third being damaged but one line remained unaffected. The implementation of safety measures, including the sealing of the building, was crucial in controlling the fire's spread. He announced plans for the reconstruction of the facility and the initiation of repair works to resume operations promptly.

In his communications, Myers highlighted the inherent risks of farming, citing it as a highly hazardous profession in the United States. He quoted, "Farming Is One of The Most Dangerous Jobs In The USA," referencing data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics which indicates a mortality rate in agriculture seven times higher than the national average. The danger of fires, exacerbated by dry conditions and flammable materials, was emphasized as a significant threat to the farming community.
