Ukrainian farmers face the necessity to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions, where vegetable prices can fluctuate sharply. Andriy Marushchak, the commercial director of "Van Dijk Technics," a company specializing in storage and processing solutions for berries, fruits, and vegetables, emphasizes the importance of investing in the storage and processing of crops.
Ukrainian agrarians are actively investing in constructing vegetable storage facilities, and some even started their production for processing products. This not only preserves the harvest but also significantly increases its market value.
One example of innovative solutions is the launch of a comprehensive line for cleaning potatoes and vegetables in the Cherkasy region, which includes the full cycle of processing - from cleaning to vacuum packing. This approach allows the production of ready-to-use culinary products, which is especially relevant for the HoReCa sector and retail supermarkets.
Processing opens new export opportunities, as finished products have higher added value and are not subject to the sanctions often applied to raw agricultural produce. According to Marushchak, this can become a profitable direction for Ukrainian farmers, especially in conditions of a limited domestic market and the need to find new sales channels.
However, the successful implementation of such projects requires significant investments and time. Nevertheless, given the availability of grant support and own funds, the realization of such initiatives is entirely achievable for Ukrainian agrarians.
Currently, there is a growing interest in Ukraine in the construction of vegetable storage facilities, although not as large-scale as in previous years. Despite this, such a trend indicates farmers' increasing attention to food security and independent product sales issues.
Ukrainian agrarians face the challenge of adapting to changing market conditions by investing in crop processing and storage. This will not only allow them to preserve and increase profits but also strengthen their positions in both domestic and foreign markets.
