BLE week 43:

'The end of the season for German cucumbers is approaching'

The presence of domestic offers had noticeably decreased for cucumbers: the end of the season is approaching. Spanish deliveries dominated over Dutch ones, and in addition, Belgian batches were also available in some cases. According to the BLE, interest was not particularly strong and could be satisfied without difficulty.

Prices trended downwards, in some cases quite sharply. In Berlin, the valuations of the leading Dutch items fell to a minimum of EUR 0.40 each. Hamburg, on the other hand, reported price increases for limited domestic and Dutch batches, provided their quality left nothing to be desired. Spanish and Dutch products dominated the mini-cucumber segment. Deliveries from Germany, Greece, and Turkey only played a minor role. In this area, too, prices often showed a downward trend.

Apples
As in the previous weeks, domestic offers dominated, led by Elstar, Jonagold and Boskoop. Italy came in second in terms of volume, spearheaded by Royal Gala, Granny Smith and Golden Delicious. Deliveries from the Netherlands, France, Poland, and Belgium rounded off the European range of goods.

Pears
Overall, business was very quiet. Demand was easily met. As a result, dealers were hardly forced to make any fundamental changes to their previous demands.

Table grapes
Italian deliveries apparently dominated the scene: Italia and Red Globe played the most important roles. Availability had decreased overall. This led to price increases, especially for Italian offers.

Lemons
The presence of the Spanish and Turkish batches increased noticeably. This had a direct impact on valuations, which mostly plummeted.

Bananas
As a rule, demand was adequately met. In some cases, the accommodation options had deteriorated due to the school fall vacations, but this did not affect the ratings.

Tomatoes
Overall, business was rather uneven. Prices developed accordingly. Both price increases and price reductions were observed.
